Project Finance
The Finance tab on a project brings together every financial document raised against it, plus a running view of budget, cost and unbilled work.
Requires the Projects module. Each finance sub-tab also requires the relevant document permission (e.g. Invoices, Estimates).
Financial documents on a project
The Finance tab organises every document type linked to the project into its own sub-tab:
Quotations, Sales Orders, Delivery Challans, Invoices, Purchase Orders, Purchase Bills, Credit Notes, Debit Notes, and Expenses.
You see only the sub-tabs you have permission to view — if you can't access Invoices generally, the Invoices sub-tab is skipped for you too.
Budget and cost tracking
The Finance summary shows:
- Budget — the amount set for the project, with a progress bar showing how much of it has been spent.
- Committed cost — cost already obligated (e.g. via a purchase order) but not necessarily paid yet.
- Unbilled work-in-progress (WIP) — billable time logged against the project that hasn't yet been invoiced.
Revenue and cost figures are shown net of tax, so the margin you see is comparable directly against the budget rather than inflated by tax.
Billing unbilled time
Click Bill Time from the Finance summary to turn unbilled billable time straight into an invoice, without re-entering the hours manually.
Tips
- Set a budget when creating the project if cost tracking matters to you — without one, the Finance tab still shows committed cost and WIP, just without the budget comparison.
- Check committed cost alongside budget before approving further purchase orders on a project that's already tracking close to its limit.
