Credit Notes & Refunds
A Credit Note records a reduction owed to a customer — a return, an overcharge correction, or a goodwill adjustment — against one of their invoices.
Requires the MoneyPro module.
Creating a credit note
- Go to Credit Notes → + New Credit Note.
- Select the customer and the open invoice it relates to.
- Add the line items or amount being credited.
- Save.
Applying credit
Once issued, a credit note's value can be applied against the customer's open invoices, reducing what they owe.
Refunding instead
If the credit shouldn't be applied to a future invoice, mark it as refunded instead — recording that the money was paid back directly rather than held as credit.
Payments view
See every payment and credit application linked to a credit note from its detail page.
Cancelling
Cancel a credit note that shouldn't have been issued; undo cancel to reverse that. Deleting a recorded refund or an applied credit is also available where a correction is needed.
Tips
- Decide between applying a credit and refunding it based on whether the customer will buy again soon — applying keeps the relationship simpler if they will.
- Use the invoice's own open-invoices lookup when creating a credit note, rather than searching separately, to make sure you're crediting against the right document.
