Chart of Accounts

The Chart of Accounts is the account tree everything in YSUITE's accounting engine posts against.

Requires the MoneyPro module.

Getting started

If you're setting up accounting for the first time, click Initialize Default Accounts — this creates a standard chart covering assets, liabilities, equity, income and expenses, which you can then adjust.

Adding an account

  1. Go to Accounting → Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click + New Account.
  3. Choose the account type and, if it belongs under another account, its parent — this is what builds the tree.
  4. Save.

Editing and removing accounts

Update an account's name or parent at any time. Deleting an account that already has journal entries against it is blocked — reassign or archive instead of deleting where history needs to be preserved.

Drilling into transactions

Click through from any account in the tree to see every journal line posted to it, and from there into the source document (invoice, bill, payment, or manual journal) that created the entry. The same drill-down works in reverse — from any invoice or bill, jump straight to the journal entries it posted.

Tips

  • Keep your chart close to the default structure unless you have a specific reporting need — reports like the balance sheet and P&L rely on standard account types to group correctly.
  • Use the account tree's parent/child structure to roll up related accounts (e.g. multiple bank accounts under one "Cash & Bank" parent) for cleaner reporting.
